Stepping Out in Faith

Sometimes you just have to have faith that God will help you when he gives you a nudge to do his will.

How Technology Has Changed Our Worship September 8, 2013

The way we worship on Sundays has changed a lot over the past 6 years in the small rural community where we attend church. Sometimes I’m resistant to change, but I like the mix of contemporary music with hymns from my childhood. Being able to follow the sermon by watching the screen at the front of the sanctuary helps me to stay focused. It also allows me to see what points the pastor wants us to really grab onto.

Having a praise band instead of a piano or organ has been a gradual change. This has now become solely the praise band, because we no longer have a pianist, anyway. Many people are participating in a ministry that wasn’t available a few years ago. We have quite a few teenagers who are involved in the praise band by singing or playing an instrument. The music is very uplifting and tends to draw in some people who may not feel as comfortable in a church that only has a piano.

We got a new pastor a year ago and he is pretty tech savvy. Instead of using notes and referring to his Bible to read scripture, he was using his iPad. Evidently some of the less tech literate thought it was wrong that he was using the iPad instead of the Bible. It’s no different than referring to notes that are written on paper. The advantage is that he can have a Bible right on his iPad or easily copy and paste scripture right into his notes. Change is hard, but when we take the time to understand the change we may realize it’s not exactly what we thought at first.

Just as students learn best by different methods, Christians may learn best in different ways. The important thing is that we come together to worship and praise the living savior. It doesn’t matter if we wear a shirt and tie or jeans and a t-shirt, what kind of music we use, or if the pastor uses notes on paper or on an iPad. What matters is the condition of our hearts and that we come to church to praise the one who came to save us. Reach out to others in whatever way you feel God is speaking to you. Of course, this is just my opinion. You’re entitled to yours…

Daily Prompt: All About Me February 13, 2013

Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you. This is my response to yesterday’s prompt:

When I first started blogging, it was in response to our church’s need for someone to take over the website. I contemplated this for several weeks before offering to rise to this challenge. I had never run a website before and I had a lot to learn, but nobody else was coming forward to take the job.

After much prayerful consideration, I felt that I was being called by God to “Step Out in Faith”. I knew that God would provide the skills I needed to complete the task at hand. The blog was a result of my feeling of God’s tug to have faith in him. I felt that this was something I needed to share with others to challenge them to step out in faith also.

Finding Inspiration in the Daily Things February 21, 2012

One of my favorite places to find inspiration is on church signs that I see as I’m driving along. On my daily journey from home to work  I pass 3 of these signs. It’s a simple way for churches to minister to the public. One of the signs has this on it lately: “Give Satan an inch and he’ll be a ruler.” How true is that? If we give in to the little lies that Satan puts in our head, he can wiggle his way right into our lives. One little lie or discrepancy can lead to another and Satan soon can have us too ashamed to ask God for forgiveness. As Christians, we know how the story ends. Let us not forget that Jesus Christ is our Savior and our Redeemer and may we always remember that no matter what sins we may have committed we belong to Him.

The next time you pass one of these church signs, think about the message being communicated. It just may be the thing God wants you to hear today. One simple way that the church can reach out to the community around it  is by using these signs to share God’s message! What does your church sign say? Will it make a difference in someone’s life today?

Stepping Out in Faith to Do God’s Work

When our church was looking for someone to be the webmaster for our new website, I had volunteered to help. When you say, “I’ll do it if you can’t find anyone else,” you know you’ve pretty much just volunteered to do it, don’t you? For several weeks, I held out hope that someone else would step up to the task. But, I had this nagging feeling that this was something God was calling me to do. After all, what did I know about web design or the layout of a web page? I’d messed around with putting a blog together at one time and put some pictures of my husband’s cornhole set designs on a website, but taking on the task of the church’s website was a whole other can of worms, so to speak.

Since beginning work on our website a few months ago, I have learned a lot about the process, but I have a long way to go. I rely on others in the church to communicate information that needs to go on it and give me feedback on their impressions. I have found that God has supplied the skills as I’ve needed them. I continue to pray for his direction as I look for ways to use the website to reach out to the surrounding communities. This opportunity has blessed me in ways I hadn’t considered. What is God calling you to do for his kingdom? Step out in faith today and put your gifts to work for His glory!

Serving In faith,
Pam
