Stepping Out in Faith

Sometimes you just have to have faith that God will help you when he gives you a nudge to do his will.

When One Door Closes, Another Opens September 10, 2012

Sometimes we struggle because we think we know the direction God wants us to go. Just when we think it’s going our direction, the door of opportunity closes. Just remember not to get discouraged. God doesn’t see things the same way we do and he can work in some pretty mysterious ways! Keep the faith and continue to pray for God to open your eyes to his will. Be prepared to go in a direction that you hadn’t considered because God may stretch you in ways you hadn’t imagined. Just when you think you’ve lost your way, the door will open and it will be clear to you that this is the plan that God has for your life. Pray that you have the discernment to realize it when God is pointing you in that direction!

Yours in Faith,

When our oldest daughter was getting ready for college, all of a sudden, she informed us she was changing her plans midway through her senior year in high school. All her life, she talked of going to art school. Now, she was feeling led to major in ministry. It was actually quite a shock to us because this was a total change in her plans. Her feeling was quite strong as to what school God was leading her toward and the way everything fell into place, it was obvious that she was right. Four years later, she is ready to graduate with a major in Biblical Studies and a minor in Ministry. She’s not really sure what she will do for a living, but we feel confident that God led her into this career choice, so he will provide for her in his time.

Now, it’s time to put our youngest daughter through college. Even though she was adamant that she would not go to the same university, it is once again obvious that God wants her there. So, after exploring several other schools, she has decided on the same place. Her calling is into a different career, but knowing that she is in a place where developing her faith is important, it will play a role in her future.

How will we pay for 2 children in a private university? I’m not sure, but so far we are doing okay. God seems to be providing a way for it to happen. If you have faith in him, he will make it happen if it’s his will.

Ask, Seek, Knock February 25, 2012

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened tI o you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV

This has always been one of my favorite scriptures. But, it’s been a little hard to fully grasp the whole concept. It has always seemed to me that I shouldn’t bother God with trivial things when there are people with really serious problems who need his help. I forget that God can do anything! He can deal with all of us at once. He hears all of our prayers at one time and finds none of our requests to be trivial. He loves us more than we can even imagine.

Even so, I don’t think about asking for help with things that don’t seem that important. But, I’m forgetting that he wants to guide me in my daily life if I will only let him. Sometimes I don’t feel like I need his guidance; that I can do it on my own. But why can’t I grasp the fact that God cares more about me than my family, my best friend, or even myself? I guess I continue to struggle with completely giving myself to him. He waits patiently for us to come to him with our requests and to fully trust in his will.

Finding Inspiration in the Daily Things February 21, 2012

One of my favorite places to find inspiration is on church signs that I see as I’m driving along. On my daily journey from home to work  I pass 3 of these signs. It’s a simple way for churches to minister to the public. One of the signs has this on it lately: “Give Satan an inch and he’ll be a ruler.” How true is that? If we give in to the little lies that Satan puts in our head, he can wiggle his way right into our lives. One little lie or discrepancy can lead to another and Satan soon can have us too ashamed to ask God for forgiveness. As Christians, we know how the story ends. Let us not forget that Jesus Christ is our Savior and our Redeemer and may we always remember that no matter what sins we may have committed we belong to Him.

The next time you pass one of these church signs, think about the message being communicated. It just may be the thing God wants you to hear today. One simple way that the church can reach out to the community around it  is by using these signs to share God’s message! What does your church sign say? Will it make a difference in someone’s life today?
