Stepping Out in Faith

Sometimes you just have to have faith that God will help you when he gives you a nudge to do his will.

I love my family very much, but I think we all need a little time away to clear our heads and get refreshed. The best way I have found to do that is to attend the Women of Faith annual conference with my sisters in Christ. It is a great weekend to socialize with other women and be lifted up by the talented entertainers and speakers at this event. In the 3 years that I’ve been able to attend, Stephen Curtis Chapman, Natalie Grant, Sandy Patti, Amy Grant, Selah, and Mandisa have performed on stage. It’s like going too a Christian concert! Plus, we get to listen to some of the best speakers share their faith stories. We laugh at comedians sharing the faith through humor and then we cry at some of the trials and tribulations shared with us.

When I come back home after WOF, I am filled with the love of God and my faith has been strengthened. Check out the schedule and see when there is an event near you. Get your tickets in advance and put it on your calendar. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

Don’t Let Satan Wreak Havoc in Your Life May 28, 2012

Have you ever thought that God was giving you a clear sign that things were supposed to go a particular way in life, but for some reason or other it just didn’t turn out that way? It is so disconcerting when that happens. Then you’re trying to figure out what happened? Did you misunderstand or is Satan trying to step in and mess things up? He does that sometimes, you know. He will do anything to take God’s people off course if he sees them making progress toward winning new souls for the harvest. When things like this happen, we need to take a step back and evaluate what it is that God wants. It’s His church after all. Go to God in prayer and ask him to give you discernment to be able to see what His will is. I believe, if we ask and then truly listen for His answer, He will lead us in the direction He wants us to go.

I leave you with this thought for the day: “When the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us, I believe we gain a built-in inclination to take our concerns and needs to the Lord in prayer.” -Shirley Dobson

Trust Your Children in God’s Hands March 31, 2012

When our oldest daughter was getting ready for college, all of a sudden, she informed us she was changing her plans midway through her senior year in high school. All her life, she talked of going to art school. Now, she was feeling led to major in ministry. It was actually quite a shock to us because this was a total change in her plans. Her feeling was quite strong as to what school God was leading her toward and the way everything fell into place, it was obvious that she was right. Four years later, she is ready to graduate with a major in Biblical Studies and a minor in Ministry. She’s not really sure what she will do for a living, but we feel confident that God led her into this career choice, so he will provide for her in his time.

Now, it’s time to put our youngest daughter through college. Even though she was adamant that she would not go to the same university, it is once again obvious that God wants her there. So, after exploring several other schools, she has decided on the same place. Her calling is into a different career, but knowing that she is in a place where developing her faith is important, it will play a role in her future.

How will we pay for 2 children in a private university? I’m not sure, but so far we are doing okay. God seems to be providing a way for it to happen. If you have faith in him, he will make it happen if it’s his will.

Finding Inspiration in the Daily Things February 21, 2012

One of my favorite places to find inspiration is on church signs that I see as I’m driving along. On my daily journey from home to work  I pass 3 of these signs. It’s a simple way for churches to minister to the public. One of the signs has this on it lately: “Give Satan an inch and he’ll be a ruler.” How true is that? If we give in to the little lies that Satan puts in our head, he can wiggle his way right into our lives. One little lie or discrepancy can lead to another and Satan soon can have us too ashamed to ask God for forgiveness. As Christians, we know how the story ends. Let us not forget that Jesus Christ is our Savior and our Redeemer and may we always remember that no matter what sins we may have committed we belong to Him.

The next time you pass one of these church signs, think about the message being communicated. It just may be the thing God wants you to hear today. One simple way that the church can reach out to the community around it  is by using these signs to share God’s message! What does your church sign say? Will it make a difference in someone’s life today?
