Stepping Out in Faith

Sometimes you just have to have faith that God will help you when he gives you a nudge to do his will.

A Parent’s Prayer Answered July 30, 2013

What a joy to see my baby girl all grown up and getting ready to walk down the aisle to become one with the man of her dreams! Watching the two of them grow up over the past 6
years I’ve seen how good they are for each other. Knowing that they are so perfect for each other gives me peace. But even more imporatantly, I have seen how they have put God first in their relationship. It makes me so proud in this day and age to know how commited they are to making that pledge, because I know the God is going to bless this marriege more than we can even imagine!

Ever since she was little, I’ve been praying that God would bring a man into her life that would make a good Christian home for her and my grandchildren and this prayer has been answered in a big way! He’s great with children and as the worship director at our church at the age of 20, he’s taken on huge responsibility at such a young age and done a fabulous job! I have no doubt that he will be a loving and supportive husband and a gentle, but firm father.

My daughter has graduated from college and works with teenaged girls who suffer from eating disorders. She has such a caring and giving heart that I know the girls will benefit from the love of God that she shares with them. It’s been her dream to be able to show others how much God loves them. As a parent, it’s one of our goals to see our children succeed in the world and I know that they are definitely getting off to a great start!

Operation Christmas Child October 19, 2012

I attend the Church of Christ at Milan, in Indiana. For the second year, we are participating in the Operation Christmas Child ministry sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. Last year, as a church family, we donated 47 filled shoe boxes! The shoe boxes are filled with everyday items that are very much appreciated by the children in countries all over the world who receive them. This year our goal is to fill 100 shoe boxes for this outreach. Collection week will be November 12-19, 2012. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, check out the website for a list of suggestions for items to include and how to pack the boxes: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/ . Please be in prayer for the success of this project. If you live in the Milan, Indiana area and would like to participate you may contact the church office at 812-654-2177 or our website at www.milanchurch.com . If you live far from us, there is a link on the OCC website that will help you find a drop off site near you! Let’s all get involved and see how God touches this outreach project!

I Am a Real Person! September 24, 2012

My daughter, Ashley, was looking into blogging the other day. She remembered that I had started a blog and she had never looked at it before. When she checked it out, she said all of a sudden I was more than just her mom. I was a real person. I had to chuckle at her description of this new side of me that she’d never seen before.

I guess we do seem to do that. I can remember when my parents would give me advice, I would listen. But I didn’t plan on taking their advice seriously! I mean what did they know. They were just my parents! But a few short years later they seemed to have gained so much knowledge! I began to actually ask for their opinion and really consider what they had said. As teenagers, we tend to think we know it all. As we get into our twenties, all of a sudden we understand that there is so much more to learn! I certainly feel validated to know that my daughter sees me as a real person! I love you so much, Ashley!

It’s Time for VBS! June 5, 2012

It’s that time of year that the adults in the church come together to create an amazing time for the children in the community! I remember VBS as a child. It is not nearly exciting as the VBS weeks I’ve been involved in as an adult. There are so many resources available now days to help plan around a central theme for the whole week. I remember just a few adults being involved, but now there are many adults and teenagers in the church that help to plan and carry out the whole week. I look forward to seeing the children singing the songs and laughing at the skits and running around during recreation time. I haven’t been involved for a few years in VBS, but I think this will be a fun summer to be a part of it again. How about you? Is it time for you to be a part of  VBS at your church? Round up the kids in your neighborhood and encourage them to have a great time learning about God and Jesus this summer!

Graduation Is a Time of Change May 22, 2012

This time of year always brings about changes for those students who graduate and are ready to take on a new chapter in their lives. I have two daughters graduating this year; one from college and one from high school. It’s such an exciting time for both of them. One ready to search for the career she has been studying for during the last 17 years, the other ready to embark on a new educational experience that will take her down an exciting path! I wish the best for each of them. I’ve spent the first part of their lives teaching them to love and trust in God and now I must do the same. I must trust that they will rely on God to lead them where he wants them to go. I am sure that he has great things in store for both of them and feel honored that my husband and I have been entrusted with the gift of raising them. It’s an awesome responsibility!

Pray For Your Children’s Future April 16, 2012

From the time our children are born we wonder what their future will be like. What kind of student will they be, what will they choose for a career, who will they marry, what will their spouse be like, how about grandchildren…? And we pray about many of these things. The mysteries of the future go on and on. This Saturday night, my oldest daughter became engaged to her best friend. They have been together for several years now and he has become very special to us.  A man of God who is a leader in our church at the young age of 20, he has earned respect from many. I trust that God brought them together and has blessed their relationship. It makes me feel very happy to see that my daughter will be with a man who loves God, loves and respects her, and will be there for her always.

So, do I feel like she is taken care of and I don’t need to pray for her any more? Certainly not! My prayers will be to continue to keep God in their relationship. I still have another daughter that I will continue to pray these same kind of prayers for. I pray that when the time is right God will bring into her life a man with similar qualities. I will always be here for my children whatever their needs, but it sure is nice to know that God and a loving spouse will be there also! Keep praying for your children, Parents! God will answer in his time…
