“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” Hebrews 11:1-2
I’ve been studying Hebrews the last couple of days and Chapter 11 really caught my attention. Part of the reason is because my blog is called “Stepping Out in Faith”. The other reason is because I was thinking about the those who were mentioned by the writer of Hebrews. We don’t really know who is the author of the book of Hebrews, but seems to be explaining the Old Testament to Christians. Today, I want to take a closer look at faith and how it can fit into our lives today.
Christians believe that God created the universe by commanding it into being. He created it out of no visible means. Is this something we saw happen? No. Did a relative see it happen? No. Then why do we believe it? To the unbeliever this must seem like a magical trick. But this is not magic. It is real! Faith is believing in something that you can’t necessarily see. Knowing that God is always with us and will never leave us; that he is preparing a place for us; and that Jesus is the only path to eternal life are all things that we believe because we have faith in God. I don’t need to know about theories of creation because I have faith that God created it because the Bible is the inspired word of God, and that’s good enough for me!
In my next post we’ll take a look at some of the Old Testament faithful.
