Sometimes you just have to have faith that God will help you when he gives you a nudge to do his will.

What Did We Do Before Cell Phones? February 11, 2012

How did we ever survive without cell phone? In the “good ole days” we planned ahead and communicated with each other ahead of times about our plans. When we had stuff going on after school, our parents knew what time we’d be done so they could pick us up. Going out with friends? Our parents knew where we were going and what time we’d be home.

I realize I’m revealing my age here, but I can remember when we had a party line! When the phone rang it wasn’t necessarily ringing for our household. You had to listen to how it rang. Was it two longs and a short or two shorts and a long? I don’t really remember how to make a phone call, guess I was too young to be on the phone much. I do remember though if someone else on our line was talking and you picked up the phone, you heard their conversation. And you couldn’t use the phone until they were done talking. I guess I don’t miss those days!

I do like the convenience of being able to touch base with my family so easily with cell phones. If one of us is running late or plans have changed, we can easily contact the rest of the family. As long as we aren’t in our home town. Unfortunately even in this day and age, we live in a dead zone! Even Verizon Wireless doesn’t provide service in our area. That can be frustrating! But as long as we’re away from home, if we have car trouble or something, we can call to get help.

I don’t want to go back to the days before cell phones. This is one change in my lifetime that I have welcomed. The technology has made a cell phone be much more than just a phone. There are probably many things I could use my phone for that I haven’t figured out yet. But I’ll figure out what I need. Honestly, I know it’s possible to survive without cell phones, but I don’t really care to go back to those days!
