Stepping Out in Faith

Sometimes you just have to have faith that God will help you when he gives you a nudge to do his will.

Giving control to God January 28, 2012

For most of my life I have been one who needs to be in control. But sometimes, I haven’t made the best decisions. Oh, I’ve tried to do the right thing. Tried to treat others as I would like to be treated. I’ve tried to do my best to be the best wife, the best mother, the best friend, the best teacher. But, I have fallen short of all that I could be when I haven’t been willing to let God take control of my life. I think I was afraid to let go because I was afraid that God’s plan for my life would not be my plan. It has taken me a long time to realize that God’s plan is perfect. Mine is not. I still struggle with the need to feel in control, but I’m working on letting God take the reigns. I have given control to him and asked him to use me as an instrument to reach others. I may not always understand why he leads me in a certain direction. But, I continue to try to trust that his will is best and let him take control.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.” 2 Peter 3:18 -NKJV

We must never feel comfortable in our understanding or in our relationship with our Lord, but continually strive to grow. Through prayer and service to others we can come closer to God. Every time I read scripture it seems that something clicks and I understand something new. I have read passages over many times, but maybe the 10th time I read it, suddenly God makes the meaning clear to me. Never stop in your quest to grow closer.

What is God’s Will for You? January 22, 2012

In my reading this week, I ran across a quote that really stuck with me. “The Will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.” -Anonymous. That is an amazing thought to know that if God wants me to do something he will watch over me while I accomplish His will! I can’t really think of anything that God has asked me to do that was dangerous, but I have felt led to do things I didn’t necessarily feel prepared to do.

I was asked to begin a Fellowship of Christian Athletes group at the school I teach in. I said I would think about it. I prayed about it and asked God to give me a sign showing me whether this was something I should do or not. It was a month or more and I didn’t feel like God was speaking to me, so I decided to tell my principal on Monday, that I wasn’t going to do it. I went to the evening service at church that Sunday and the topic of the Bible study was the story of David and Goliath. David was just a boy with only a slingshot and a stone. He trusted in God to give him what he needed to defeat the giant that none of the men in the army would face. All of a sudden, it dawned on me that God would give me the tools I needed to lead a group of middle schoolers in a club if he could help David. God had just given me the sign I was looking for! That was 2 years ago and now our FCA is flourishing! I could never doubt that God has his hand in the lives of the students I serve as sponsor.

Pam

We are, as Christians, to witness to others. Do you find it easy to express to others your love of Jesus Christ and how turning your life over to Him has changed you forever? I can remember times in my life when I would feel a nudge from God to say or do something, but I would ignore the feeling. I didn’t feel comfortable with the task being put before me. Sometimes the feeling would nag at me until I would finally pick up the phone and make a call to check in with a friend or family member only to find that they were going through a tough time. They really needed someone to talk to. My phone call was just what they needed.

Becoming involved in a ministry is one way to fill this calling that we might feel. Maybe God is putting it on your heart to teach a Sunday school class or lead a Bible study. Or perhaps, your nudge is to become involved in music ministry, help out in the church office, head up a new nursing home ministry, or to take a leap of faith and increase your tithe. There are many ways we can serve the Lord in our church and our communities. Whatever it is that you feel compelled to do for God’s glory…do it! You won’t regret taking that leap of faith!

Yours in Faith,

Pam

Stepping Out in Faith to Do God’s Work

When our church was looking for someone to be the webmaster for our new website, I had volunteered to help. When you say, “I’ll do it if you can’t find anyone else,” you know you’ve pretty much just volunteered to do it, don’t you? For several weeks, I held out hope that someone else would step up to the task. But, I had this nagging feeling that this was something God was calling me to do. After all, what did I know about web design or the layout of a web page? I’d messed around with putting a blog together at one time and put some pictures of my husband’s cornhole set designs on a website, but taking on the task of the church’s website was a whole other can of worms, so to speak.

Since beginning work on our website a few months ago, I have learned a lot about the process, but I have a long way to go. I rely on others in the church to communicate information that needs to go on it and give me feedback on their impressions. I have found that God has supplied the skills as I’ve needed them. I continue to pray for his direction as I look for ways to use the website to reach out to the surrounding communities. This opportunity has blessed me in ways I hadn’t considered. What is God calling you to do for his kingdom? Step out in faith today and put your gifts to work for His glory!

Contemplating God’s Creation…

I was thinking about all that God has created. It’s pretty awesome when you think of the beauty and intricate design of so many things we find on this earth. And who knows what lies beyond that hasn’t been discovered yet. No matter how much scientists think they know, there are always answers out of their reach. How much God must have loved us to have created all this for us and then given us the freedom to choose Him or walk away. It must hurt terribly to have many turn their backs completely on him, but when we finally realize and come back, he’s willing to open his arms wide and celebrate our return to his fold.

I’ll leave you with this thought: “Can’t follow the stars? Follow the One who made them” – Anonymous

Pam

Do Not Be Anxious January 16, 2012

Have you ever had something weigh heavy on your mind? Something that you just didn’t know how to process? Then, right there in front of you is the answer. When I got on facebook this morning, there it was: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Phillipians 4:6-8.

There it was in black and white on my news feed. Just what I needed to hear. When things seem like they aren’t going the way you really thought they were supposed to go, we just need to remember God may have a different plan. A better plan. His plan. Sometimes it’s difficult to let go and trust that God will take care of it. I shouldn’t be anxious, but pray and place my faith in God.

Yours in Faith,

Pam
